Who dares disturb the UGTL's slumber??

After a long hot summer hiatus, UGTL is back with its seventh event coming to Echo Park's Rec Center Studio Saturday November 20th. To mark our return, we decided to do a little extra this time around. In addition to our Super Street Fighter IV tourney, we'll be running a Tatsunoko vs. Capcom tourney as well! More details soon, just thought the world should know what's comin.

So until then, we'll be dropping more and more info here and on our twitter and facebook accounts, so make sure to follow/fan us! Also, we've got a post going over at SRK if you'd like to join the conversation.

See yall in November

Where have we been? More like where have we NOT been. UGTL 6 at the Rec Center was a blast, Devastation in Phoenix was a blast, and we're just a few days away from Evo in Vegas.

Now I know, everyone's been asking, "when's the next UGTL main event?" Here's a clue: September. For the time being, cool your jets and check out this video coverage of UGTL 6. Also, make sure to check out our new and improved Buzz section. If you've created or come across any sort of UGTL coverage- be it written article, photo gallery, or video, please let us know! We may link to it from our site for the world to see!

UGTL 6: Tech'd Out

Man, have we got some surprises for you...

UGTL 6 still seems so far away, but get hyped because when the doors open at 2pm on April 24th you can expect to be blown away! Since we've moved to a new location, we're making sure that even though you'll be packed butts-to-nuts in the Rec Center, there will be plenty to keep you entertained. Get there early for Happy Hour from 2-5pm, and keep yourself liquored up when the 3v3 SF4 tourney begins around 530pm. Our Resident DJs will be pumpin' out jams for your listening pleasure, and in the mean time you can check out the debut of the Pixel Drip gallery which will include selected pieces and talented artists doin' live art.

Not entering the tourney? Angry Bananas will be back again to host the Casual Gaming Lounge so you can jump on many 2 to 4 player games while we mash through the tournament. You can also check out Meat Bun and snag some fresh gear. They're so awesome they've put their stamp on UGTL as sponsors, which means we must be awesome as well! We hope that you stick around for a special performance by 8 Bit Weapon and ComputeHer later on in the night... so let the fist pumping commence! And don't think we've ditched the $1 tacos just because we got a little fancy; they'll be there... waiting for you. Deliciousness.

Could we possibly pack more fun and excitement into UGTL6? Maybe. Possibly. You wouldn't even know until it punched you in the face. So while you're waiting for that to happen, check out the Events section for more info and links. You can also join the crowd on our Facebook page, because... everyone is doing it.

So Much Appreciation!

People have been talking about the UGTL. We can feel it.  We also know that it takes a lot of hard work, open ears and minds, and generosity to make it to where we are today. So let's be honest; any news is good news, but really good news is even awesome-er.

After UGTL was published in the LA Times, all those closed doors just exploded wide open!... sort of. Gootecks said it right: "Not quite sure when the last time competitive Street Fighter was written about on the LA Times (which means I don’t think it ever has)".Word, Gootecks. We were throwin' confetti for days. That led to an little shout out from Coin-Op TV (@ 14:40)! Lets cross our fingers for a little face-time in the future. Even after UGTL5, we received so many positive reviews from Angry Bananas, Box Arena, Allisfighter, and more! Thanks everyone! Stay tuned for updates about our next event :)

UGTL 5 Recap

To put it plain and simple - it was awesome! We brought UGTL 5 back to Project Infest located in downtown LA, and people came from all over to join in the festivities of Street Fighter. Rightly named SFIV Fest, there were plenty of stations to get your game on, a well-rounded selection of DJs, different styles of artists putting their goods on display, and of course those famous $1 tacos. If you haven't heard it enough already, you really did miss out if you weren't there!

Let's talk about surprises... thank you Universal for providing the UGTL with all kinds of The Wolfman goodies! We showered the crowd with sweet shwag and made people werk-it for passes to The Wolfman premier at The Grove. Throughout the craziness of winning free tickets, you could enjoy some retro games in the casual lounge hosted by the dudes at Angry Bananas. Ting Boy brought his gear and modded sticks for those interested. RadNerd and Cipher12set up shop as well, make sure to check their websites for cool stuff. Free beer? Hell yeah! You could find a Tecate in everyone's hand, all day (until we ran out). It was a non-stop line of growling stomachs at the grill, those $1 tacos and quesadillas were too popular... so of course we ran out. There was so much going on, there was no way pictures did UGTL 5 any justice!

We can proudly say this is the smoothest tournament we've ever run. We blasted right through the 62 entrants, and by the time we made it to the Top 8, we had DJ Frank Freshfrom San Diego's own Box Arena up on stage droppin' sick old school jams! The crowd was still pumped by the time we gave the victors of the night their cash-money. Congrats to Combofiend taking 1st, Combojack coming up in 2nd, and OnlineTony who finished it up in 3rd! Remember you get free entry into our next event, so come through and defend your place at the top.

Thanks again to everyone that makes any UGTL event possible. We have so much fun throwing together these gatherings, and we hope that you enjoy it to the fullest every time. See you at UGTL 6!

We're in the LA Times!

It hasn't even been a year since the UGTL first got started. Now, we're pushing our way to the top of So Cal gaming scene by bringing the party to the heart of Los Angeles. Music, art, and good food get thrown into the mix to create what we feel should be the standard of all gaming tournaments. If you've had the pleasure of attending any of our events, welcome to the fam!

Although, if you haven't found the opportunity to get your butt off the couch, the LA Times would like to remind you that you're definitely missing out! Check out the article written by Samantha Page, then join us at UGTL5... and get hype.

Anime LA Recap

Wow, ALA started early for the UGTL... can't believe we were up before 9am! By the time we finally located the game room within the massive LAX Marriott Hotel, we were hungry and in need of caffine. We said eff-it and began assisting with hooking all the equipment we needed to run an SF4 tourney.

You can never fully appreciate PA systems until you try to run a tournament of 23 people amongst a constant flow of cos-play enthusiasts. We love costumes, screaming, and loud noises just as much as the next person (huh?), but trying to announce the next entrant over a crowd is a bit nasty on the throat. Should have brought a bullhorn. Even though half the players disappeared during the middle of the tourney, and no one could hear a thing, it turned out to be fun! UGTL was reppin' by landing 3 of 4 entrants in the top 8. If you were there, you could have witnessed Bmarq's El Fuerte take 1st. Rigged? Definitely not... he actually is good (now).

                 Top 8

             1st:  Bmarq
             2nd: LB
             3rd:  EJ
             4th:  Jerrell
             5th:  Alfredo
             5th:  blueNINE
             7th:  Andrew A
             7th:  Chris T

Of course, we got a few pictures of the tournament, the anime scenery, and awesome people sporting Street Figher gear. Make sure to head over to the gallery and check out!
